8-Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course
The course aims to assist you in taking better care of yourself and in getting the most out of living. The majority of people completing the programme repost lasting physical and psychological benefits including:-
- an increased ability to relax
- an increased ability to manage pain, chronic conditions and disability
- greater energy and enthusiasm for life
- heightened self confidence
- an increased ability to cope more effectively with both short and long term stressful situations
- having more kindness towards themselves and others
- more acceptance of whatever situation they are in, whether or not they can do anything about it
The aim of the programme is to learn new ways to handle challenging physical sensations, feelings, moods or social interactions.
What does the course involve?
The mindfulness course is run over 8 weeks in 2 hour sessions as a group at the Sky Garden in the village of Odiham in Hampshire.
The course is taught to a group of a maximum of 6-8 participants.
Jackie also offers the course on a one to one basis in one hour sessions over 8 weeks. For groups an experiential day of mindfulness practice is included in the weekend of week 6, when participants have the opportunity to experience a whole day of practice and notice the effects of this.
Coming to these classes requires some work and commitment on your part. You will be asked to undertake approximately 30 minutes of home practice each day, in between classes. Finding this time can be challenging, but it is developing this personal practice that facilitates the lasting benefits of the course.
Who is the course for?
All of us! The programme is known to benefit people with a range of problems of both a physical and psychological nature, but it is not necessary to have a specific health problem to find it helpful. We all have times in our lives when we experience difficulty, stress and struggle and for some of us this is our daily experience. The problem or illness itself may not change but the way we relate to and cope with the difficulty may shift, making it all feel easier. Developing greater awareness can open us to be able to change how we approach our experiences – taking more pleasure in the good things and dealing more effectively with the difficulties. We can see how often we are missing the moments of our lives! We can see how our habitual and reflex reactions to events often add layers of difficulty for us on top of the original problem!
The course is therefore potentially open to any of us who are at a point in our lives where we wish, and are ready, to look deeply at ourselves.
People do also come to mindfulness courses to gain skills in dealing with particular conditions. I have worked with people with a range of problems including:-
- Chronic pain
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Anxiety and panic
- Grief and loss
- Sleep disturbance
- Cancer and other long term illnesses
- Skin disorders
- Eating disorders
- Weight issues
- Autistic spectrum disorders (ADHD, Aspergers)
- Time management and work/life balance
What do I do if I am interested?

Before the course starts you will be invited to a free consultation. This is an opportunity for you to meet me, to tell you a bit more aboutthe course, to answer any questions you may have and to explore whether the approach will be beneficial to you at this time. It is important for you to realise that I may feel that this is not the right time for you to come on this course – if this is the case I will discuss this with you.
I do not charge for this contact and it is ok if you decide following this that the course is not right for you or it is not the best time for you to take the course.
Support during the Course
Should you experience any difficulties in connection with the course in between the sessions, I will be available via email during the week and you can also make contact with me on the phone. It is important to use this as a resource rather than get stuck in any difficulty.
It is also helpful to ask a friend, or if appropriate a therapist, to be available for personal support during the course. I am available for support in connection with issues arising through the course and mindfulness practice, but I am unable to offer therapeutic support should it be needed.
The group course fee is £200.00. A non refundable deposit of £50.00 is to be paid on reservation of your place. Fee to be paid in full at latest 1 month before course start date.
Individual one to one sessions cost £40.00 per hour and should be booked as a course of 8. Each session is to be paid a week in advance.
Cancellations before the group course start date will be charged 50% of the full fee. Cancellations after this date will not be refundable.
I reserve the right to cancel any group course if the numbers do not make it viable. A full refund would be made in this instance.
For one to one sessions, a minimum of 48 hours notice is required to change a session. Less than 48 hours notice will be charged in full.
